The firm’s research arm StatCounter Global Stats reports that Chrome took 22.1% of the UK market, up from 3.9% in July 2009. In the same period Microsoft’s Internet Explorer fell significantly from 61% to 46% globally and Firefox dropped slightly from 27% to 22%.

“Chrome continues to make significant gains in the browser market going from under 4% two years ago to over 20% today,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. “Despite falling market share Internet Explorer still leads in the browser war but the next few months will be interesting to watch with Chrome and Firefox almost neck and neck.”

Chrome is also performing particularly well in Ireland where it overtook Firefox in May to become the number two browser. In July it reached 27.7%, ahead of Firefox’s 24.2% but still behind IE at 39.9%.

How dare you Echofon!? This is such short sightedness.

Apparently the previous version (1.9.6.4) of the Echofon plugin to Firefox still works, but I would appreciate suggestions for a different Firefox plugin. I would be happy to ditch Echophon alltogether, it was a good product untill the developers killed it for me.

If you get the error - Echofon does not support this platform or custom build Firefox. (Can’t get OAuth signer.) / Cc['@naan.net/twitterfox-sign;1'] is undefined (Fx version 3.6.8 / ABI x86-gcc3) – according to the Echofon developers you are using a minor platform, and that includes 64bit build on Mac and Windows..

Google Chrome and Safari are tied at the bottom of the list of a password security test run by CIS - Chapin Information Services.

Two years ago CIS discovered a flaw on Mozilla that could give “clever attackers” access to your saved passwords. A few days ago CIS ran a security test on all the major browsers and to their horror and surprise most of them did really badly, including Internet Explorer.

Among the problems are three in particular that, when combined,
allow password thieves to take passwords without the user’s knowledge.
They are:

The destination where passwords are sent is not checked.

The location where passwords are requested is not checked.

Invisible form elements can trigger password management.

You can test your own browser at the CIS website.
