Old browsers have plagued the evolution of the web and cost web designers and developers hours in backwards comptibility work.  On top of that there’s the security threat.  Anyway, if you run a website or a blog, you may want to join the Push up the web campaign.

The results of the “Just for Fun” Poll  linux.com community have just been released.  You may be wondering what some of those weird names actually mean, so here goes a short guide for those, like myself, who are not up to date with it all.

1. Btrfs: is a new copy on write filesystem for Linux aimed at implementing advanced features while focusing on fault tolerance, repair and easy administration. Initially developed by Oracle, Btrfs is licensed under the GPL and open for contribution from anyone.

   Linux has a wealth of filesystems to choose from, but we are facing a number of challenges with scaling to the large storage subsystems that are becoming common in today’s data centers. Filesystems need to scale in their ability to address and manage large storage, and also in their ability to detect, repair and tolerate errors in the data stored on disk. 2. Dynamic Tracing: Dynamic event tracing is one of the newest feature on perf/ftrace. This allows users to dynamically add/remove additional trace-events with various arguments in the kernel. Microsoft plans to release today the “final” version of Internet Explorer 8. It won’t be added to Windows update yet but the curious IE user will be able to download it from the official IE website once it’s been released. Officials have said that there are only a few changes between the (RC) version and this release. 

IE 8 will be included in Windows 7 as a removable option later this year, but before then I am sure several patches will be released.
